How to Bet on a Race Equipment Used Racing Rules
All betting and cashing transactions may be handled at any mutuel window. You may bet any dollar amount starting with the minimum wager. When making a wager, have the correct amount of money you wish to wager ready, and clearly state your bet in the following way:

1. TRACK YOU WISH TO WAGER ON:
    State the name of the track upon which you are wagering.
2. AMOUNT OF WAGER:
    State the amount you wish to wager.
3. TYPE OF WAGER:
  
State the type of wager you wish to make.
4. NUMBER OF HORSES IN WAGER
   State the program number(s) of your selection(s).

Examples Of What to Say:
  • "Rosecroft, $10 to win on number 1."
  • "Rosecroft, $2 exacta on numbers 1-2."
  • "Rosecroft, $3 trifecta on numbers 1-2-3."

Always remember to make sure that you have received the correct tickets and change before leaving the mutuel window.  Note that several individual wagers may be included on one ticket. Hold all tickets until the race has been declared official.

KINDS OF BETS

All Races have:
  1. WIN  (1st Place)
  2. PLACE  (2nd place)
  3. SHOW  (3rd Place)

Minimum bet for a Win, Place or Show bet is $1.00

  • If you bet to WIN, you collect if your horse finishes FIRST.
  • If you bet to PLACE, you collect it your horse finishes FIRST or SECOND.
  • If you bet to SHOW, you collect if your horse finishes FIRST, SECOND  or THIRD.

DAILY DOUBLE

Minimum bet: $1
  • To win the DAILY DOUBLE,  you must pick the WINNER of the first race of the daily double and the WINNER of the second race of the daily double on a single ticket.
  • This bet must be purchased prior to the first race.

EXACTA - All Races

Minimum Bet: $1

To win an EXACTA, you must select the horses that finish FIRST and SECOND in a race in their exact order on a single ticket.

TRIFECTA

Minimum Bet: $1 - You may make a $.50 wager with a combination of horses that adds up to a minimum of $1.00.
                             example: $.50 trifecta 1 with 2 with 3 and 4 = $1.00

To win a TRIFECTA, you must select the horses that finish FIRST, SECOND and THIRD in exact order on a single ticket.

SUPERFECTA

Minimum Bet $1 - You may make a $.50 wager with a combination of horses that adds up to a minimum of $1.00.
                            example: $.50 superfecta 1 with 2 with 3  with 4 and 5 = $1.00

To win a Superfecta, you must select the horses that finish FIRST, SECOND, THIRD and FORTH in exact order on a single ticket.

Now, with Superfecta Carryover, if there are no winning tickets in the last race Superfecta, a carryover pool will be established -  25% of the Superfecta pool will be distributed to the winning "all-tickets" -  the remaining 75% of the Superfecta pool will be carried over and added to the next Rosecroft Superfecta Pool. This process will continue until a bet is selected with the exact order of finish.

EXACTA AND TRIFECTA COMBINATIONS

EXACTA BOX

  • An EXACTA BOX enables you to combine on one ticket all possible exacta combinations involving two or more horses.
  • You win an EXACTA BOX if any two of the selected horses in the EXACTA BOX finish FIRST and SECOND.
  • A $1 EXACTA BOX using three horses costs $6.
  • Winning $1 EXACTA BOX tickets pay one-half the posted exacta price (which is based on a $2 wager).
Example - When you go to the teller window say:
  • "Rosecroft, $1 Exacta Box on horses numbers 1 - 2 and 3."
  • The Cost: will be $6.00
  • The Combinations you are holding are:
    1-2,  1-3,   2-1,  2-3,  3-1,  3-2


TRIFECTA BOX

  • A TRIFECTA BOX enables you to combine on one ticket all possible trifecta combinations involving three or more horses.
  • You win a TRIFECTA BOX if any three of the selected horses in the TRIFECTA BOX finish FIRST, SECOND and THIRD.
  • A $1 TRIFECTA BOX using four horses costs $24. Winning $1 TRIFECTA BOX tickets pay one-half the posted trifecta price (which is based on a $2 wager).
Example:
  • "Rosecroft, $1 Trifecta Box on 1-2 and 3"
  • The cost will be $6.00
  • The Combinations you are holding are:
    1-2-3,  1-3-2,  2-1-3,   2-3-1,   3-1-2,   3-2-1

TRIFECTA KEY ENTRY

  • If you think you have selected the winner of a Trifecta race and you want to box other horses to finish second and third, use the TRIFECTA KEY entry.
  • You win a TRIFECTA KEY if your key horse finishes FIRST and any two of your other selected horses are SECOND and THIRD.
  • A $1 TRIFECTA KEY using three horses (other than the winner) costs $6.00
  • A $1 TRIFECTA KEY using four horses costs $12. Winning $1 TRIFECTA KEY tickets pay one-half the posted trifecta price (which is based on a $2 wager).
Example:
  • "Rosecroft, $1 Trifecta Key on 1 with 2-3-4"
  • The cost will be $6.00
  • Combinations held.
    1-2-3,1-2-4,1-3-2, 1-3-4,1-4-2,1-4-3

TRIFECTA PART WHEEL

  • TRIFECTA PART WHEELS enable you to combine on one ticket combinations using a variety of horses to finish FIRST, SECOND and THIRD.
  • You win a TRIFECTA PART WHEEL it the horses you use finish in the order you selected on your ticket. Although the base cost of a straight trifecta ticket is $2.
  • The cost of TRIFECTA PART WHEELS varies depending on the number of combinations involved.
Example:
  • "Rosecroft, $1 Trifecta Part Wheel 1-2 (first) with 1-2 (second) with 3-4-5 (third)"
  • The cost: will be $6.00
  • Combinations held:
    1-2-3, 1-2-4, 1-2-5, 2-1-3, 2-1-4, 2-1-5

TROTTERS

PACERS

BREAKING RULE

  1. When a horse or horses break from their gait in trotting or pacing, their driver shall at once, where clearance exists, take such horse to the outside and pull it to its gait.
  2. The following shall be considered a violation:
    (a) Failure to properly attempt to pull the horse to its gait
    (b) Failure to take to the outside when clearance exists
    (c) Failure to lose ground while on the break.
  3. If there has been no failure on the part of the driver in complying with 2 (a) (b) and/or (c), the horse shall not be set back unless a contending horse on his gait is lapped on the hind quarter of the breaking horse at the finish.
  4. The Judges may set any horse back one or more places if in their judgement any of the above violations have been committed.

STARTING RULE

  1. There shall be no recall after the word "go" has been given and any horse, regardless of his position or an accident, shall be deemed a starter from the time he entered into the Starter's control unless dismissed by the Starter.
  2. The Starter shall endeavor to get all horses away in position and on gait but no recall shall be had for a breaking horse except as provided in (3).
  3. The Starter may sound a recall for the following reasons:
            (a) A horse scores in front of the gate
            (b) There is interference
            (c) A horse has broken equipment
              (d) A horse falls before the word "go" is given
EURORAIL RULE
In the event a horse or part of the horse's sulky leaves the course by going inside the EuroRail, and in the opinion of the judges, the action gave the horse an unfair advantage over other horses in the race or the action helped the horse improve its position in the race, the horse may be disqualified from receiving any winnings. In the case of an act of interference which causes a horse or part of the horse's sulky to leave the course by going inside the EuroRail, and the horse is placed by the judges, the offending horse must be placed behind the horse with which he interfered.
